A New Inchy the Bookworm Book Vending Machine in Orange County Virginia
Despite the uncertainty of the school year across the country, reading remains a key part of a child’s education, and school districts are continuing to be inventive and steadfast in their approach to furthering education in these tough times.
Growing Through the Tough Times
The educators at Unionville Elementary school in Orange County Virginia have shown to their community that reading education and literacy are important tenets of their process. On November 10th, OCPS Superintendent, Dr. Snead completed the ribbon cutting ceremony, celebrating the opening of the Inchy the Bookworm Book Vending Machine at Unionville Elementary School.
Unionville Elementary School was awarded a “Homegrown Giving Grant” from Williams Companies in the amount of $2500 to help fund their purchase of the Inchy the Bookworm book vending machine.

Rewards to Foster a Love of Reading
The elementary school will be implementing the token awards program. Dr. Snead described it saying, “Students earn tokens by demonstrating kindness, good character, and increased effort towards work completion all while fostering a love of reading in a fun innovative way.”
It is important throughout this difficult time for school districts and especially families, that there be opportunities for children to get the education that they need to succeed, and what a better way, than rewarding students with their choice of book, or adventure, to dive into. The choice that that student receives, can give them a sense of freedom and excitement for what they are reading, making the task to get children to regularly read, a much easier endeavor.
Help is Available
As the Unionville Elementary School shows, there is local public funding available to bring an Inchy the Bookworm into your school. Ask your local PTO/PTA about fundraising to get an Inchy the Bookworm in your school. If there is a will, there is a way.
