Common Misconceptions About the Vending Machine Industry
Posted by Global Vending Group, INC on 15th May 2015
Pretty much every person in the United States has used a vending machine. Whether you grabbed a snack at work, snagged a soda from the lobby at your mechanic’s shop, or dropped a few coins in search of a candy bar at a hotel/motel, you’re probably familiar with the way a vending machine operates. What’s harder to understand, however, is how the network behind that machine operates.
Many people searching for new vending machines for sale know very little about the actual vending machine industry. They know there can be good money in it, but don’t know where to begin or what not to do. With that in mind, here are a couple of major misconceptions newcomers to the business often have:
Get Rich Quick
Some new vending machine owners imagine a vast network of machines generating hundreds of thousands of dollars a month. Unfortunately, that’s simply not the case. Building a reliable income with vending machines takes hard work and dedication -- you have to build your network one machine at a time. Don’t expect to buy a couple of new vending machines for sale and fall into a pile of cash.
Low Effort, Low Maintenance
“All they do is fill the machine and collect the money!” That’s a common statement you hear from people considering a foray into the vending machine business. And while the basics are correct, it overlooks the fact that strong networks have dozens, even hundreds of machines. Maintaining, filling, and cashing out your machines will take considerable effort and legwork.
Barriers to Entry
Unlike other businesses, vending machines have no major barrier to entry. You don’t need a special list of secret contacts or a membership in a special club. Simply work with local business owners where you think you see a vending machine opportunity. Building your network is about making connections and putting in the time, not a hidden list of incredible locations.
